OVER EXPECTATION IS THE MAIN
REASON FOR SORROW.
As human beings,
we all tend to do good. It is an imbibed quality in us. We may have curbed this
habit in the race to achieve worldly gains, but we forget that it is the main
reason for happiness in our lives. We do not help or give charity to others for
their sake; we do it for our joy. Have you ever experienced the bliss and pleasure
you get when you do something useful? It is unmeasurable. Nature teaches us to
do things for others. Trees yield fruits for us; rivers give water to us; the sun
provides heat and light to us and so on. They do not expect anything in return.
Sun does not demand anything from us in return for its warmth.
Similarly, a river
does not expect anything from us in return for the water we use. Nature does it
as their duty, as a pleasure. The same is with us. If we do something good for
others, do it as a source of contentment without expecting anything from them. If
you desire anything from them in return for your righteousness, it is not doing
good. It is like doing a business. Give and take. Do not even expect
gratefulness. We do best for our enjoyment, not to satisfy them. Our
expectations can be the leading cause of grief for us. If you want to expect
anything, expect it from God because He never fails to give. Your compassion
and affection will return to you in the best form.
No wonder people
who do good without expectation shine like the stars because the pride they feel
makes them glow. The best example of such a person is Mother Theresa. Her love
and care for humanity are always commemorated. She has become the epitome of
respect and love.
Let us all thrive towards bliss and serenity
by helping our fellow beings. We must help those in need, and it is to be done to
derive peace in our life. This is the equation of life - to help others by any
means possible and bringing harmony and tranquility in our lives. Charity could
mean anything, food, money, good advice, showing path, teaching, or even a
smile. This is the ultimate purpose of life. One who achieves contentment in
these purposes has genuinely led a meaningful life.
